Mychelle Cumings was tabbed Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

After Liberty's opening meet of the 2013 outdoor track & field season, Lady Flames sophomore Mychelle Cumings has been named Choice Hotels Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week and junior Josh MacDonald has been tabbed Big South Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Cumings' first Big South Athlete of the Week award this year and the fourth of her career comes in large part thanks to her impressive effort in the discus at the Coastal Carolina. She uncorked a throw of 163-0 to win the event by more than 12 feet and qualify for the ECAC meet. The Tennessee native also placed fifth in the women's hammer competition, reaching 154-0 on her best attempt.

MacDonald sped to victory in the Coastal Carolina Invitational men's steeplechase on Saturday, earning the first Big South weekly honor of his collegiate career. His near personal-best time of 8:57.26 won the race by 21 seconds, met the IC4A standard and ranks No. 1 nationally at this early stage of the outdoor campaign.

Liberty will remain in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for this weekend's Shamrock Invitational. The three-day meet begins Thursday morning at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
