After garnering the No. 5 seed in the Big South Conference North Division, the Liberty men's basketball team will square with the South Division's No. 4 seed and tournament host, Coastal Carolina, in the opening round of the 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championship.

The contest will take place on Tuesday inside Coastal Carolina's arena, The HTC Center in Conway, S.C. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m.

Due to the move to divisional play, this year, the two squads met just once during the regular season. Liberty hosted the Chanticleers on Jan. 12, earning a 64-56 decision over head coach Cliff Ellis' team.

Liberty and Coastal Carolina have matched up three times in the Big South Championship, with the Flames owning a 3-0 record over the Chanticleers in postseason play. The most recent tournament meeting between the two squads took place March 4, 2004, as Liberty bested Coastal Carolina during the semifinals inside the Vines Center, 88-73.

Two days later, the Flames went on to capture their second Big South Championship and NCAA Tournament bid with an 89-44 win over High Point. Coincidentally, the winner of Tuesday's matchup will face the Panthers in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.

The championship will begin Tuesday with four first round games. No. 4 North seed Radford will play No. 5 South seed Winthrop at 12 p.m., while No. 3 South seed UNC Asheville meets No. 6 North seed Longwood at 2 p.m. In the evening session, No. 3 North seed Campbell will play No. 6 South seed Presbyterian College at 6 p.m., with No. 4 South seed and championship host Coastal Carolina facing No. 5 North seed Liberty at 8 p.m. Tuesday's winners will advance to Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Charleston Southern (17-11, 12-4 Big South) is the No. 1 South seed after winning the outright South Division championship this afternoon -- the Buccaneers' first Big South regular-season title since 1986-87. CSU will open against the winner of Radford-Winthrop at 12 p.m. on March 7. High Point (17-12, 12-4 Big South) is the No. 1 North seed after winning the outright North Division crown on Feb. 19 -- the Panthers' first-ever Big South title in men's basketball. HPU will open against the winner of Coastal Carolina-Liberty at 8 p.m. on March 7.

While High Point and Charleston Southern both finished 12-4 in League play, the Buccaneers have been declared the overall No. 1 seed based on winning the regular-season head-to-head meeting with the Panthers, and CSU receives the Big South's automatic bid to the NIT should it not win the conference tournament.

VMI claims the No. 2 North seed and begins its postseason against the winner of UNC Asheville-Longwood Thursday at 2 p.m. Gardner-Webb is the No. 2 South seed and plays the winner of Campbell-Presbyterian Thursday night at 6 p.m.

All games will be played at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. Individual session tickets will go on sale starting Sunday, March 3 by visiting www.goccusports.com. Beginning Monday, March 4, tickets can be purchased in-person at the Coastal Carolina Athletics Ticket Office in Arcadia Hall beginning at 9 a.m., as well as by phone at 843-347-8499.

All four first round and quarterfinal will be video streamed live on The Big South Network presented by State Farm. The 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Men's Basketball Championship will continue with the semifinals on Saturday, March 9 with both games being carried on ESPN3.
