MacDonald's 3rd Place Highlights IC4A Day 2

Josh MacDonald finished third in the IC4A 5K final on Saturday.

Liberty junior Josh MacDonald placed third in the IC4A 5K final, highlighting the Flames' successful Saturday at the 2013 IC4A and ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

The Liberty men's team totaled 12.5 points on the day, with four different Flames recording top eight finishes. The Flames currently sit in fifth place in the IC4A standings, which are topped by Connecticut's 32 points.

Meanwhile, the Lady Flames have tallied six points through six ECAC events, putting them in a tie with Holy Cross, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont for 12th place. Connecticut also leads the ECAC standings with 38.5 points.

IC4A Day Two Recap
MacDonald's third-place finish in the 5K was part of an impressive showing by the Flames' distance runners, which saw all three entrants in the 5K establish new personal-best times. MacDonald's 14:10.33 clocking moved him up to fourth on Liberty's all-time indoor 5K list.

Behind him, freshman Jeremie Bourget posted a time of 14:29.28 for 10th place in both the race and on Liberty's all-time performance list. Finally, Ngetich Kipchirchir dropped his personal best to 14:41.98 and finished 20th overall.

Ryan Smith placed in the IC4A weight throw for the third year in a row, as his 61-6.25 effort netted fifth place.

Big South high jump champion Kyle Wheeler successfully cleared 6-9 on his second high jump attempt, finishing in a tie for seventh place. It was the first time the sophomore has scored points at the IC4A meet.

Redshirt freshman Cody Bingham also tallied his first IC4A point, placing eighth in the heptathlon. He closed out the competition with a personal-best 1,000-meter time of 2:53.93, boosting his final score to a personal-best 5,027.

Paul Arslain qualified for the 500-meter dash final with a time of 1:03.56 while Jarred Cornfield made the 1,000-meter final with his 2:26.50 clocking.

Sophomore John Sherret failed to reach the 800-meter final but improved his personal best to 1:54.79. That moves him into ninth place in program history.

ECAC Day Two Recap
Abigail Flower ran well on Saturday, qualifying for Sunday's ECAC 60-meter dash final. She equaled her personal best in the preliminaries, at 7.57, before running 7.58 in the semifinal round. Flower later equaled her own school record in the 200-meter dash, 24.72, but missed out on the final.

Khristina Kanagy sped to a personal-best 5K time of 17:13.96, passing Heather Sagan for fifth place in program history. The senior ended up 19th overall in the event.

Melissa Rohwer came in 14th in the triple jump with a 38-3.25 leap, while teammate Janae Jones followed in 15th place at 38-1.25.

The third and final day of the 2013 IC4A and ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships will commence Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with the IC4A long jump and ECAC shot put.
