Liberty Softball Adds Game, Will Host Manhattan, Saturday
The Liberty softball team has added a game to its 2013 schedule. The Lady Flames will host Manhattan for a single game this Saturday, with first pitch at the Liberty Softball Field scheduled for 1 p.m.
Manhattan, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), had its season-opening invitational rained out last weekend. The Jaspers will now open their 2013 campaign at Liberty on Saturday. Manhattan went 11-36 last season, finishing eighth in the MAAC with a 6-10 conference record.
The Lady Flames are 3-2 all-time against Manhattan, with the Jaspers winning the most recent meeting, 8-5, on March 22, 2003 in Boca Raton, Fla.
Liberty brings a 4-7 record into the weekend, most recently splitting its home-opening doubleheader with Hampton, yesterday. Katie Zavodny registered a program-record five hits in game one, when the Lady Flames fell, 10-8, in eight innings. The hosts then scored four runs in each of the first two innings and got a four-hitter from Chandler Ball in a 10-1 win during game two.
Following Saturday's contest, Liberty's next games will be held in Johnson City, Tenn., as the Lady Flames will play a doubleheader at East Tennessee State on Tuesday.
