Following his best 54-hole total of the 2012-13 season, Liberty's Chase Marinell has been named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.

Earlier this week, Marinell carded a two-under par 211 (71-70-70) at the Arizona Intercollegiate, allowing the senior to finished tied for eighth in a 15-team field that included No. 1/1 California and No. 4/5 New Mexico.

The sub-par tournament score marked the first time the junior has finished a tournament in red figures this season and the eighth time in his Liberty playing career.

The 2012 Big South all-conference golfer currently leads the Flames with a 72.53 stroke average and has played seven of his 15 rounds of golf this season at par or better.

He has posted three Top 10 finishes in 2012-13, spotlighted by a share of second place at the Rees Jones Invitational in October, an event Liberty won by 24 strokes.

Marinell finished the fall season ranked No. 63 in the country by Golfweek and No. 86 by Golfstat, posting a 1,093-102 head-to-head individual record during four fall events.

Marinell and the rest of the Flames' squad will head to Marinell's home state for their next event on Feb. 9-10. The Fort Myers, Fla., native will look to lead Liberty at the Gator Invitational, hosted by Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
