Liberty Opens 2013 Season at Florida Gulf Coast Invite

FGCU Invite Singles and Doubles Draws

The Liberty women's tennis team travels to the Sunshine State this weekend to take part in the Florida Gulf Coast Invite. The tournament serves as the opener of the 2013 spring season for the Lady Flames.

Joining Liberty at the invitational will be the host Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, No. 53 North Texas, Big 12 member Iowa State, North Florida and Northwestern State.

The tournament is divided into six singles flights and three doubles flights. Liberty has at least one singles player or doubles tandem competing in each flight.

In Flight 1, the Lady Flames' Alexandra Sheeran faces Sarah Means of Florida Gulf Coast, while Brittany Yang challenges North Texas' Valentina Starkova in Flight 2.

A pair of Lady Flames are slated to compete in Flight 3, with Cameron Richard matched up with Rebeca Pereira of North Florida and Valerie Thong pitted against Northwestern State's Andrea Nedorostova.

Liberty's Nicola Wellman will play Taylor Hollander of North Florida in Flight 4. Joining Wellman in Flight 4 will be the Lady Flames' Rebekah Jenkins, who will face Northwestern State's Daniela Simonova.

Rounding out competition in singles play for Liberty will be Jessie Boda challenging Emelia Box of North Texas in Flight 5 and Annisha Domenech playing Victoria Parshikova, also of North Texas, in Flight 6.

In doubles play, Richard and Sheeran open play in Flight 1 against Ksenia Pronina and Simona Cacciuttolo of Iowa State.

Flight 2 features Thong and Jenkins squaring off against Johanna Sterkel and Gyanna Mandic of Florida Gulf Coast, while Yang and Wellman will play Hollander and Pereira from UNF.

Boda and Domenech will face North Florida's Simona Weymar and Mariella Calderon in the Flight 3 bracket to wrap up competition in doubles play.

After the tournament wraps up, the Lady Flames will return to the court on Jan. 27 against Appalachian State at 4 p.m. Liberty's first dual match of the season will take place at the Greenbrier Resort in Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
