Devon Brown has won three Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors this season.

For the third time this season, Liberty redshirt senior guard/forward Devon Brown has been honored as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The award covers games played between Dec. 17 and Jan. 1.

Brown has now been named Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week five times in her career. Her previous honors this season came on Nov. 26 and Dec. 10. Brown is the first Lady Flame to earn three Big South Player of Week awards in a season since Avery Warley was honored four times in 2010-11.

Brown helped Liberty defeat Virginia Union, VCU and Winthrop by an average of 34.0 ppg, as the Lady Flames improved to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in Big South play. During the three contests, the Waynesboro, Va., native averaged a team-high 23.0 ppg and 5.3 rpg. She shot 57.5 percent (23-of-40) from the field, 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from three-point range and 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the foul line.

Brown scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in just 18 minutes of action during a 95-39 home win over Virginia Union on Dec. 17. Three days later, she tied for game-high honors with 15 points as Liberty posted a 76-63 win at VCU.

Her best performance, however, came on Saturday at Winthrop. Brown played a key role in Liberty's 90-57 triumph over the Eagles with a career-high 32 points. Nine of those points came during an 18-3 game-opening run which gave the Lady Flames the lead for good. Brown, who also pulled down eight rebounds, became the first Liberty player to score 30 points in a contest since Megan Frazee had 30 tallies at Radford on March 6, 2009.

Brown and the Lady Flames will play their first two Big South home games of the season this week, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. with a matchup against Presbyterian College. The contest with the Blue Hose will feature the only two Big South teams with 2-0 records at this early stage of conference play.

Liberty will then host UNC Asheville Saturday at 3 p.m., in the first game of a doubleheader with the Flames men's basketball team. The Liberty men's squad will also face Asheville on Saturday, with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
