Bomberger Named NCBWA President
Liberty Associate Athletics Communications Director Ryan Bomberger has been selected president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA), as the organization's executive board recently approved its list of 2012-13 officers. Bomberger is currently serving in the role with the organization and will continue through the 2013 College World Series.
Currently in his ninth year as a member of the Liberty Athletics Communications staff and as the Flames' baseball contact, Bomberger has served previously on the NCBWA Board of Directors as an at-large representative for two years and moved into the officer rotation in 2009. Bomberger succeeds Tami Cutler of Wichita State in heading up the organization's geographically diverse board of directors.
Over the past three years, Bomberger has coordinated the organization's annual Freshman All-American team and spearheaded the compiling of all Division I baseball contacts for the association's online directory.
In addition, Bomberger is one of 40 weekly voters in the NCBWA national poll and serves on the Dick Howser Award, Stopper Award selection and All-America team nomination committees.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball through promotion. The organization sponsors the Dick Howser Trophy (most outstanding player), the Stopper of the Year and several All-America teams and Player of the Year awards, along with providing a weekly poll ranking of the Top 30 squads in the country.
Besides his work with the NCBWA , Bomberger was named to the College Baseball Hall of Fame voting committee by the College Baseball Foundation in January of 2009. One of 150 voters, Bomberger has participated in the voting for the last four Hall of Fame classes.
