Will Templeton (left) and Jeremie Bourget have both signed national letters of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2012-13 academic year.

The Liberty men's cross country team, which has won an unprecedented seven consecutive Big South titles, built for the future on Tuesday. Distance runners Jeremie Bourget and Will Templeton have inked national letters of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2012-13 academic year.

"I am extremely excited about the incoming class of 2012," remarked Liberty Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Josh McDougal. "The signing of both Jeremie and Will is a huge step forward for our program. For us to be able to bring in two runners of this caliber who can make an immediate impact within our top group is outstanding."

"Two such additions to a team that potentially returns everyone certainly bodes well for the future," added Liberty Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Brant Tolsma. "Both Will and Jeremie chose Liberty because of our common spiritual commitments, and therefore I expect that they will both thrive and develop here. We are excited to have them joining us."

Jeremie Bourget (Timmons, Ontario, Canada) of Theriault High School has fared well at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships this past year. He placed fourth in the 2K steeplechase at the 2011 OFSAA Track & Field Championship, clocking a time of 5:56.83. Bourget then came in third at the 2011 OFSAA Cross Country Championship.

Bourget owns top times of 8:39 for the 3K, 21:54 for a 7K cross country course and 25:11 for an 8K course. One of his most impressive performances came at the 2011 Trinity Collegiate Invitational cross country meet, where Bourget finished second with a time of 20:24.9 on a 6,700-meter course. His time was faster than the course record which previously belonged to fellow Canadian Matt Hughes, who won back-to-back NCAA national steeplechase titles in 2010 and 2011 for Louisville.

"Jeremie comes from Ontario, where they run 7K in cross country in high school, as opposed to 5K in the United States," McDougal noted. "I am really pleased by Jeremie's ability to run well over the longer distances, because a lot of freshmen struggle to make the transition to 8K and 10K distances their first year."

Will Templeton (Knoxville, Tenn.) of Hardin Valley Academy has made a remarkable progression after taking up distance running as a sophomore. During Templeton's first cross country season in 2009, he became Hardin Valley Academy's first-ever state qualifier. Each of the past two years, Templeton has been the Tennessee Class AAA state cross country champion, leading his team to the state title in 2010.

Unbeaten during his senior cross country season this past fall, Templeton was named the KnoxNews.com PrepXtra Boys' Cross Country Runner of the Year for 2011. He has also shown his abilities on the track, clocking a 15:44.36 5K at the 2011 New Balance Indoor Nationals.

"Will is a tenacious but patient runner who ultimately is a true competitor," McDougal stated. "His two state cross country titles were won by 0.11 seconds and 0.91 seconds. You can't coach that kind of desire. It has to come from within. The ability to find the motivation to dig deeper like that with regularity is very rare, and I am very pleased to sign a runner like Will who definitely has it."
