The Liberty men's tennis team suffered its first setback of 2012, Friday, with Richmond earning the 6-1 road win indoors at the Sports Racket.

The Flames now stand at a level 1-1. Richmond, who has seen a considerably larger amount of competition at this point in the season, improves to 2-4 with the win.  Richmond's victory snaps the Flames' three match win streak in the series.

Liberty's Giancarlo Lemmi and Wayne Harrell claimed the first match of the afternoon, with the duo defeating Ethan Dunbar and Paul Nahon III, 8-3, in the No. 3 match.

Despite Liberty holding slim advantages early in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, the visitors rallied to take each match and secure the doubles point, and a 1-0 lead.

The Spiders gathered momentum in singles play, as they chalked up two more team points by taking the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches in straight sets.

The next pair of matches to go final, the No. 2 and No. 5 matchups, also went in favor of the Spiders, but lasted three sets. The Flames' Shea Thomas and Dillon Segur jumped out to a 1-0 lead in both matches, but their counterparts fought back to claim the second and third sets to claim the overall team victory.

Siim Tuus put Liberty on the board with a three-set victory in the lead singles match. After taking the first set 6-1, Dunbar fended off an early defeat by scoring the second set in a tiebreak.  In the longest match of the evening, Tuus put away his opponent, 7-5 in the third set.

In the late-starting No. 6 match, Lemmi squared the match with a second set victory, but Nahon III pulled out the ten-point breaker to claim the sixth and final point for the Spiders.

Liberty will turn around quickly, as they will host Averett tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.  The match will also take place indoors at the Sports Racket. Fans not able to attend can track live stats via the live stats link on the Flames' schedule page.
