At the conclusion of another successful year for Liberty track & field, Nick Pierce caught up with head coach Brant Tolsma.

The Liberty men's and women's cross country and track & field teams combined to win five Big South championships in 2010-11. However, the year may best be remembered for the closing chapter of Sam Chelanga's brilliant collegiate career.

Chelanga won a pair of national championships as a senior, opening the year with his second straight cross country title and dramatically closing it with a 5K championship in his final collegiate race. He finished his collegiate career as a four-time NCAA national champion and a 14-time All-American.

Tolsma also noted the USA Junior and Senior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which saw coach Derek Scott and freshman Josh MacDonald both post top-10 finishes in their respective steeplechase finals.
