With a busy weekend of track & field competition approaching, Nick Pierce caught up with Liberty assistant coach Derek Scott and head coach Brant Tolsma.

The conversation reviewed the Flames' successful performance at the Liberty Open on Friday and Saturday. Sam Chelanga stole the show with his world-leading 13:41.35 clocking in the men's 5K. However, the meet also featured four IC4A-qualifying performances and three ECAC-qualifying efforts by the Flames and Lady Flames.

This Saturday, Liberty athletes will be spread from coast to coast. Most of the Liberty men's and women's track & field competitors will take part in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in University Park, Pa. Meanwhile, Chelanga is entered in the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, while Caleb Edmonds and Josh MacDonald will run in the USA Cross Country Championships in San Diego.
