The Liberty University Athletics Department held its first public event in the newly expanded Williams Stadium tower on Tuesday night, as they hosted members of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Business After Hours events, which began around 5:30 p.m., featured food provided by "Flavours Catering by Design" and attracted a crowd of approximately 400 local business individuals. Following a time of socializing and food sampling, a short welcoming program and an official ribbon cutting ceremony was held to open the facility for local use.
Those who addressed the assembled crowd included Christine Kennedy, of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Jeff Barber, Liberty University Director of Athletics, and Jerry Falwell, Jr., Liberty University Chancellor/President.
Barber and Falwell let the local business individuals know that the facility could be rented out for both business and private events. Falwell mentioned that the University had already been contacted by several individuals for wedding receptions. The on-campus facility provides ample space for any time of meeting in the 11,000-square foot room, which includes a breathtaking view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the City of Lynchburg.
Following the event, members of the Chamber of Commerce were allowed to tour the five-story facility, getting a look at the 18 luxury suites on the fourth floor and the fifth floor that includes Chancellor and Athletics Director suites and ample press areas.
As the evening concluded, several of the assembled guests watched Liberty's men's soccer team battle No. 4 North Carolina at Osborne Stadium on the third-floor balconies.
