Davis to Play in Inaugural College Gridiron Showcase
Liberty senior defensive lineman Dominique Davis has been selected to participate in the inaugural College Gridiron Showcase game.
The football all-star game features the top senior players from around the country from all levels of collegiate football.
The contest will be played at Maverick Stadium on the campus of UT Arlington in Arlington, Texas, on Jan. 31. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CST).
The players from the Desperados and Wranglers rosters will participate in a series of drills and practices the week leading up to the event. The game and practices will showcase the players to scouts and executives from NFL, CFL and AFL teams.
Davis had a banner senior season for the Flames, earning All-Big South first-team honors. He started all 14 games for Liberty at defensive tackle, ranking fifth on the team and first among defensive linemen in tackles (62).
The native of Buffalo, N.Y., ranked third in the Big South with 7.5 sacks and fifth in tackles for a loss (12.0). He also ranked fourth in the conference with two forced fumbles.
Davis, a team captain in 2014, was part of a defensive unit that posted two shutouts during the season (Norfolk State and Gardner-Webb). Liberty contained a pair of top 10 ranked offenses in the country in upset wins over No. 1 Coastal Carolina and No. 15 James Madison.
Liberty finished the 2014 season with a 9-5 record and won its seventh Big South title in the last eight seasons. The Flames earned their first-ever spot into the NCAA FCS Playoffs this season, advancing to the second round where they faced No. 5 Villanova.
