An Inside Look at the Heptathlon
|Game On reporter Chierstin Susel (right) took a first-hand look at the heptathlon, alongside Liberty's heptathletes, including Riley Brandon (left) and Jessica Harrison (middle).|
In order to better understand the rigors of the heptathlon, Game On's Chierstin Susel recently completed a mock heptathlon alongside Liberty heptathletes Audrey Bamford, Riley Brandon, Jessica Harrison and Erika Jackson.
The heptathlon has traditionally been a strong event for Liberty women's track & field. Danielle (McNaney) Detmer, who owns the program record of 5,504 points, qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2002, 2004 and 2005 and went on to compete in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Liberty heptathletes have combined for two ECAC titles and 10 Big South championships, including the last six in a row.
Liberty is less than a month away from the start of the 2014-15 indoor track & field season. The inaugural Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational will kick off the season at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center on Dec. 3-4.
