Liberty Hosts Longwood on Senior Day, Tuesday
After seeing its 10-game unbeaten streak snapped on Friday, the Liberty women's soccer team looks to close out the regular season on a positive note, Tuesday, when it hosts Longwood on Senior Day. Match is slated for 3 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
Currently three points ahead of Coastal Carolina (19) in the Big South standings with 22, the Lady Flames (11-4-1, 7-1-1 Big South) need a win or a tie to secure the No. 1 seed for the third time in program history heading into the 2014 Big South Women's Soccer Championship.
Liberty leads the all-time series against Longwood, 7-4-1. Last season, the Lady Flames defeated the Lancers in the regular-season finale, 1-0, in Farmville, Va., thanks to a game-winning goal by Smith in the 82nd minute.

Last Time Out for Liberty
The Liberty women's soccer team stepped on to the field at CCU Soccer Stadium, Friday night, looking to sew up the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Big South Championship. Unfortunately, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers had other plans, as leading scorer Kacey Kelley netted a goal in the opening half to take the contest, 1-0.
With its first defeat in Big South action, this season, Liberty is now 11-4-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play. The Lady Flames remain atop the conference standings, but their program-record 10-game unbeaten streak comes to an end. Coastal Carolina moves to 9-7-2 and 6-2-1 in the Big South.
Liberty goalkeeper Holly Van Noord played the entire 90 minutes in the between the posts, making five stops.
A Look at the Lady Flames
Brittany Aanderud leads the team in points (16) on four goals and eight assists. The junior's assist total is tied for first in the Big South with UNC Asheville's Amanda Dailor and Radford's Jordan Lundin.
Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers lead the team in goals with five apiece. Madison Kauzlarich has four goals, while Jennifer Knoebel and Rebeccah Smith each have three. Knoebel is also second on the team and tied for fifth in the conference with five assists. Jaime Bouffard and Baylee Gillmore each have two goals and four assists on the year. Maddie Boone, Sami Santos and Jordan Kestel round out Liberty's scoring on the season with one goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord leads the conference in shutouts with seven. She is also first in the Big South in save percentage (.853) and goals-against average (0.69).
As a team, Liberty leads the Big South in assists (32), save percentage (.862), shutouts (8), fewest goals allowed (11) and goals-against average (0.67).
Head coach Jessica Hain is in her sixth season with the program. Hain is coming off the most memorable season of her coaching tenure at Liberty, guiding the program to its fourth Big South Championship and first since 2005.
Boone was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week last week for games played, Oct. 13-19. The weekly conference honor marks Boone's second this season and the program's fifth overall.
Boone previously won the award on Aug. 25. Knoebel (Sept. 22) and Aanderud (Sept. 29) have each garnered Attacking Player of the Week honors this season, while junior defender Alex Mack was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6.
Longwood at a Glance
The Lancers enter Tuesday's contest 8-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the Big South. Longwood is coming off a 3-0 win on its Senior Night against UNC Asheville. Senior Samantha Phillips posted the game-winning goal for the Lancers, followed by markers from Lilly Payne and Olivia Colella.
Phillips and teammate Amanda Spencer are tied for fifth in the conference with seven goals on the season. Colella paces the team with four assists.
Goalkeeper Hailey Machen has appeared in 16 games for the Lancers, starting 15. She currently owns a 1.50 goals-against average and a .703 save percentage.
Liberty will host a quarterfinal matchup in the 2014 Big South Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday. Game time is to be announced.
