Liberty women's soccer senior defender Maddie Boone has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played, Oct. 13-19. The weekly conference honor marks Boone's second this season and the program's fifth overall.

Boone previously won the award on Aug. 25. Since then, freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel (Sept. 22) and junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud (Sept. 29) have each garnered Attacking Player of the Week honors, while junior defender Alex Mack was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6.

In Saturday's 2-1 win at Gardner-Webb, Boone was instrumental in holding the Runnin' Bulldogs to five shots, including four on goal. The senior also recorded Liberty's first goal in the 58th minute before Aanderud followed up with the second marker less than two minutes later.

With the win, Liberty moves to 10-3-1 on the year and 6-0-1 in the Big South, marking its best seven-game start in conference play. The Lady Flames' current unbeaten streak bests the previous program record of eight (2009).

Liberty returns to Osborne Stadium on Wednesday to host Winthrop. The Eagles boast the conference's leading scorer, Krystyna Freda. Match time is set for 3 p.m., with the contest streaming live on the Big South Network.
