Flames Add Pinetree Intercollegiate to Fall Slate
Liberty has added a fourth tournament to its 2014-15 schedule and will now conclude its fall slate at the Pinetree Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State.
The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. The par-72, 7,108 course was designed in 1962 and is regarded as one of the finest private course in the state of Georgia.
The Kennesaw State event is in its third year of existence and has been won by the host Owls the first two years by sizeable margins.
Kennesaw State won the inaugural title with a 4-under par 860 (289-282-289) in 2012, finishing 24 strokes ahead of Ball State. Last year, the Owls finished with a winning score of 8-over par 872 (296-284-292), finishing eight strokes ahead of Big South foe Winthrop.
This year's 11-team field is spotlighted by Kennesaw State and Liberty, a pair of programs that are coming off NCAA Regional seasons, last year.
The Owls advanced to their second NCAA Men's Golf National Championship in a row last year and have four total program appearances in the NCAA Regionals.
The Flames, who won their third Big South title in the last four years, also made their fourth consecutive NCAA Regional showing last year.
Liberty Head Coach Jeff Thomas has only one returning player from last year's Big South championship team in senior Mathieu Fenasse. He leads the team with a 74.50 fall stroke average and has one top five finish in three events this fall.
Tyler Abrahamsen will also compete as an individual, which will be his first time on the course for the Flames.
The tournament will begin with 36 holes of action on Monday, followed by a final 18 holes of play on Tuesday. Live stats for the 54-hole event will be provided by Golfstat.com.
