The Liberty women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to a program-best nine games on Saturday, defeating Gardner-Webb, 2-1, at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

Senior defender Maddie Boone and junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud posted the Lady Flames' goals on the day. Aanderud and junior defender Alex Mack were credited with assists.

Aanderud's helper is her team-leading eighth of the season and 23rd of her career, adding to her existing school record. She is also tied for the team lead in goals (4) with forwards Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers.

Gardner-Webb leading scorer Shelby Hooe tallied the lone marker for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

With the win, Liberty moves to 10-3-1 on the year and 6-0-1 in the Big South, marking its best seven-game start in conference play. The Lady Flames' current unbeaten streak bests the previous record of eight (2009). Gardner-Webb falls to 5-8-2 overall and 2-3-2 in league action.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord played the entire 90 minutes in the net for Liberty, finishing with three saves. Gardner-Webb netminder Krista Chauvin also played the full contest, collecting seven saves.

Liberty outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs, 17-5, including 9-4 on goal. The Lady Flames also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

After a scoreless first half, Boone lit up the scoreboard in the 58th minute for her first goal of the season. Aanderud dished the ball to the senior, who airmailed it from the top of the 18-yard box into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Aanderud added a goal of her own in similar fashion less than two minutes later. Following a pass from Mack, Aanderud curled a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the upper left corner of the goal frame, giving Liberty a 2-0 advantage.

Hooe broke up the shutout with a goal in the 67th minute. Brandon Arey and Addison Abee each chipped in assists on the play, which resulted in a tap-in from six yards out. Hooe's marker put the Runnin' Bulldogs within one, but Liberty held off the Gardner-Webb attack down the stretch, securing the 2-1 final.

Liberty returns to Osborne Stadium on Wednesday to host Winthrop. The Eagles boast the conference's leading scorer, Krystyna Freda. Match time is set for 3 p.m., with the contest streaming live on the Big South Network.
