Flames Set to Face Previous Familiar Foe on Saturday
Following the team's final full practice this week, head football coach Turner Gill met with the media on Thursday to discuss his team's preparation for the Appalachian State game.
The contest marks the renewal of an older series, as the two teams squared off eight times during a 10-year span from 1993 to 2002. Appalachian State leads the overall series, 7-2, including a 5-2 record in contests played at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C.
The two programs have changed dramatically since their last meeting at Williams Stadium in 2002. Liberty has found NCAA FCS conference affiliation in the Big South. Meanwhile, Appalachian State has left the Southern Conference and the FCS ranks and is currently in its first full season as an NCAA FBS team playing in the Sun Belt Conference.
Saturday's game, Liberty's final non-conference game on its 2014 regular season schedule, marks the first time the Flames have ever faced a Sun Belt Conference opponent on the gridiron.
The Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) will provide radio coverage for the game, while ESPN3 will broadcast through its various television streaming outlets. For more information about where to watch and/or listen to the game, check out the Game Day Central page for this Saturday's road contest.
