Liberty Travels to Gardner-Webb for Big South Match
The Liberty Flames men's soccer team travels to Boiling Springs, N.C., for a match with the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, Saturday afternoon at Harbison-Greene Stadium. Match time is schedule for 1 p.m.
Both teams will enter the contest looking for their first Big South victory of 2014. Liberty will come into the match with a 0-2 record in conference play and 5-3-1 overall mark. Gardner-Webb will enter the contest with a 0-1-1 mark in conference play and 1-7-1 overall.

A Look at Liberty
The Flames had their match against Big South opponent High Point canceled due to inclement weather, Tuesday evening. Liberty (5-3-1, 0-2) will enter Saturday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing skid. The Flames fell at Radford, 2-0, in their last outing last Saturday.
The Flames enter the weekend having outscored their opponents, 19-11. Liberty ranks second in the Big South Conference in goals per game with a 2.11 average and is fourth in goals allowed with a 1.22 goals-against per game average. The Flames rank 13th nationally in goals per game and 24th in total goals in the latest NCAA statistical report released, this morning.
Six different Flames have netted two or more goals each, while 10 different Liberty players have scored at least one goal in 2014. Sachem Wilson leads the Flames with four goals and eight points on the year. The junior enters the weekend tied for fourth in the Big South in goals.
Goalkeeper Scott Sutarik enters Saturday's contest with a 1.19 goals-against average. The senior's goals-against average currently ranks second in the Big South. Sutarik has recorded two shutouts this season.
Liberty alumnus Jeff Alder is in his 14th season at the helm of the Flames. Liberty has posted a 132-95-23 mark during his tenure.
A Look at Gardner-Webb
Gardner-Webb (1-7-1, 0-1-1) will return to Big South play on Saturday. The Runnin' Bulldogs fell at N.C. State, 5-2, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday. In their last conference match, Gardner-Webb tied UNC Asheville in Asheville, N.C., 1-1, last Saturday.
Gardner-Webb has been outscored by its opponents, 24-8, on the year. The Bulldogs will be looking for their first home victory of the year after dropping their first three home matches of the year.
Ali Al-Gashamy leads the Bulldogs with four goals and 10 points. Four other Gardner-Webb players have scored one goal each.
Head Coach Tony Setzer is in his 27th year at Gardner-Webb, recording a 186-295-35 career mark. He is the winningest coach in school history.
At the Midpoint
With last Saturday's match at Radford, Liberty reached the midway point of its 2014 regular season. Through their first nine games, the Flames have posted a 2-1 record at Osborne Stadium, while posting a 3-2-1 mark away from home. Liberty is 1-2-1 in away games and 2-0 in neutral site contests.
The Flames will play five out of their last eight games at home. Six of the eight are Big South Conference matches.
Last season, the Flames went 4-5 through their first nine games of the year. Liberty went onto post a 5-3 record over its last eight contests to finish its regular season.
Spreading the Wealth
Liberty has had 10 players score at least one goal this season. The Flames also have had six players net two or more goals. Liberty has outscored its opponents, 19-11, and enter the week 13th in the nation in goals scored per game. In addition, six different Flames have netted their first goal in a Liberty uniform in 2014. Freshmen Alan Arellano, Jovanni Chavez, Bay Kurtz and Troy Reeves along with transfer Khalil Karl and junior defender Jamie Foxwell have all scored the first goal of their collegiate careers.

- Newcomers continue to make their mark. The Flames have had five players see significant minutes in seven or more matches that were not on the roster last season.
- Sachem Wilson is tied for fourth in the Big South Conference in goals with four. High Point's Mamdee Nyepon leads the conference with seven.
- Jovanni Chavez is tied for third in the Big South with two game-winning goals. Two players lead the conference with five.
- Goalkeeper Scott Sutarik ranks second in the Big South Conference with a 1.19 goals-against average. Radford's Aitor Pouseu Blanco leads the conference with a 0.61 GAA.
- With a 4-0 victory over Howard on Sept. 23, goalkeeper Scott Sutarik has amassed 18 shutouts during his career. The senior ranks fourth on the program's all-time list. He needs one more to tie Dean Short for third place.
A Look Ahead
Liberty returns home to host two nationally ranked opponents, next week. The Flames will host No. 20 American (7-3-1), Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest. Match time is slated for 6 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
The Flames will then host No. 23 Coastal Carolina (8-3) in a Big South match, Saturday. Match time at Osborne Stadium is scheduled for noon.
