Men's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule
Liberty men's tennis head coach Chris Johnson has announced the team's spring schedule for the 2014-15 season. Johnson enters his eighth season at the helm of the men's tennis squad, and in doing so, has revamped the schedule to push the team to the next level of competition.
"We are very excited about this year's schedule," stated Johnson. "Our guys have risen to each test so far this fall and will be ready to take on a tough schedule in the spring"
Liberty opens its spring schedule with a home indoor match Jan. 23 against James Madison in the morning and Morehead State in the afternoon. The Flames will continue to be challenged, traveling to Miami, Fla. on Feb. 5-7 to take on Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast and Miami.
Liberty opens conference play with a home match against the Longwood Lancers on March 3 at the Cook Tennis Center.
The Flames will be led by seniors Jorge Azuero and Dillon Segur as they try to build upon last year's success, capturing their sixth consecutive double-digit win season in the 2013-14 campaign. The two seniors combined to go 17-19 in singles play and 21-15 in doubles competition, last season.
In the 2014 spring season, Liberty posted a 12-10 (5-3 Big South) overall record, marking the sixth consecutive season with double digit wins. The Flames five Big South victories bested the program's single-season record of four set back in 2010.
The Flames return four student-athletes from a year ago, welcoming two freshman as well as two transfers.
"We want to win a championship, that is our goal. Anything short of that this year will be a disappointment," declared Johnson.
