Liberty women's soccer junior defender Alex Mack has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 29-Oct. 5. The announcement was made by the conference earlier this afternoon.

The weekly honor is the first of Mack's collegiate career and the program's fourth this season. Liberty has now earned weekly conference honors three straight weeks. Junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud garnered Attacking Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 29, while freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel received the same award the week prior. Mack's teammate on the back line, Maddie Boone, was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 25.

This past week, Mack was part of a defensive unit that earned two shutout victories. In the Lady Flames' 8-0 win against UNC Asheville on Wednesday, Liberty allowed just one shot on goal, despite the Bulldogs firing 11 shots total. Mack and the Lady Flames followed up the effort on Saturday, holding Presbyterian to just three shots on goal in a 2-0 victory. With the shutout, the Liberty defense helped goalkeeper Holly Van Noord tie the program record with the 20th shutout of her collegiate career.

Liberty returns to Osborne Stadium on Wednesday, playing host to Radford. The contest is a rematch of last year's Big South Championship final, which resulted in a 5-0 victory for the Lady Flames. Match time is slated for 3 p.m., with the contest streaming live on the Big South Network.
