The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad capped off its strong weekend performance with three finals victories in the Hokie Fall Invite at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. The Lady Flames posted an overall record of 24-5 during the three-day competition, which wrapped up on Sunday.
In doubles competition, the duo of Emily Groeneveld and Valerie Thong secured the Flight B doubles finals victory after defeating host Virginia Tech's Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar by a score of 8-7.
Liberty's freshman Evangeline Crist captured her first singles finals triumph in Flight D, upending James Madison's Rachel Nelson. Crist carried her momentum over from the Elon Invitational where she advanced all the way to the finals before falling to Elon's Olivia Lucas in three sets 6-3, 3-6 and 10-8. Crist clinched her first finals this time around, defeating Nelson 6-1, 7-6(4).

Liberty finished 6-1 on the day, including the consolation matches, en route to an impressive team performance overall.
"I am so proud of our whole team. We came out strong every day and we were able to adapt to our opponents' game style and were able to find ways to win," Liberty Women's Tennis Assistant Coach Giancarlo Lemmi commented. "Today, we faced some tough competition but we were able to raise our game in order to come up with three flight wins."
The Lady Flames return to action Oct. 17, traveling back to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center to take part in the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
