Game On 2014 Opponent Preview: Richmond
LFSN's Game On continues its weekly opponent preview series with Nick Pierce by taking a look at the Richmond Spiders, the Flames' second nationally ranked FCS opponent of the year.
Much like Indiana State last week, Richmond will come into the game well rested after the Spiders had last weekend off. During Richmond's last game, the Spiders allowed a touchdown during the final 20 seconds of the game to let a lead slip away from them in a 29-26 setback to No. 7/9 New Hampshire on Sept. 20.
The meeting will be the second time the Flames have faced the Spiders with the first meeting taking place last year at Robins Stadium. Richmond won the game, 30-21, with both team battling a soaking rain storm most of the evening.
The Spiders have the No. 2 passing offense in the country, averaging 352.5 passing yards per game. Richmond's Michael Strauss has completed 70.8 percent of his passing attempts (85-of-120) and has thrown for 1,086 yards and six touchdowns.
Richmond also averages 162.2 rushing yards per game and has scored 10 of its 16 offensive touchdowns on the ground in 2014. Jacobi Green (199 yards, 2 TDs), Jeremiah Hamlin (168 yards, 2 TDs) and Seth Fisher (115 yards, 2 TDs) have shared the workload on the ground this season.
The game will also mark the first time the Flames have faced Richmond head coach Danny Rocco at Williams Stadium. Rocco served as Liberty's head football coach from 2006 to 2011, posting a 47-20 record and winning four Big South titles.
Game On, a 30-minute daily sports talk show produced by Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN), airs Monday through Friday on various LFSN affiliates across the country and features regular coverage of Liberty football throughout the 2014 season. LFSN is a professional network that reaches more than 85 million homes across the U.S. and other areas of the world.
