Coming off an impressive 4-1 win at Charleston Southern, Wednesday, the Liberty women's soccer team continues Big South action, Saturday, at Campbell. The defending Big South champions are looking for their fourth straight win. Standing in their way is a Fighting Camels squad looking to avoid a three-game losing skid.

Campbell leads the all-time series, 4-3. However, Liberty defeated the Fighting Camels last year at Osborne Stadium, 7-0 (Sept. 28, 2013). Junior forward Crystal Elmers led the Lady Flames with two goals in the contest. The performance marked a season-high in goals for Liberty. Game time for the eighth installment in the series is slated for 1 p.m.

Last Time Out for Liberty
Despite allowing a goal in the opening two minutes in its Big South opener against Charleston Southern, Wednesday, the Liberty women's soccer team answered with a season-high four goals to defeat the Buccaneers at Blackbaud Stadium, 4-1.

With its third straight win, Liberty moved to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in Big South action.
Junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud led the Lady Flames attack with two goals, followed by Rebeccah Smith and Madison Kauzlarich, who each had one. All three players tallied their first goals of the season. Helena Pereira, Aanderud and Jaime Bouffard were credited with assists.

Liberty goalkeeper Holly Van Noord played the opening 67:37 between the pipes, making one save. Tori Collar came in for the final 22:23, ending Van Noord's streak of consecutive minutes in goal at 2,855. Collar finished with three saves in her Liberty debut.

A Look at the Lady Flames
Through eight games, freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel paces the Lady Flames offense with three goals, followed by Brittany Aanderud, Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers, who have two apiece. Three players have one goal on the season – Madison Kauzlarich, Sami Santos and Rebeccah Smith.

Aanderud's assist against Charleston Southern gives her 19 for her Liberty career, one shy of tying the program record held by Nancy Davis (20, 1998-2001). The junior midfielder leads the Big South with four assists, this season.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord leads the league in shutouts with four. She is also second in the Big South in goals-against average (0.87) and fourth in save percentage (.800). Van Noord enters Saturday's matchup with 18 career shutouts, needing three more to break the program record (20) held by Karen Blocker.

Knoebel's earned Big South Attacking Player of the week honors on Monday for games played Sept. 15-21. The weekly honor marks the first ever for Knoebel in her budding collegiate career and the second for the Lady Flames, this season. Senior defender Maddie Boone previously earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 25.

As a team, Liberty is second in the Big South in assists (14) and first in fewest goals allowed (7), goals-against average (0.84) and shutouts (4).

Head coach Jessica Hain is in her sixth season with the program. Hain is coming off the most memorable season of her coaching tenure at Liberty, guiding the program to its fourth Big South Championship and first since 2005.

Liberty was unanimously voted the preseason favorite in the Big South Conference women's soccer preseason poll by the league's head coaches. The Lady Flames collected all 11 first-place votes and 121 total points, and were the preseason favorite for the first time since 2010 and sixth time overall.
