Weidner Named Big South Freshman of Week
Liberty right-side attacker Hannah Weidner has been named Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week, for matches played from Sept. 1-7.
Weidner, a native of Shorewood, Minn., earns her first Freshman of the Week honor. She is the first Lady Flames to be named Big South Freshman of the Week since Nzea McQuitrey, who received the honor on Nov. 11, 2013.
Weidner led the team with a 3.89 kills per set at a .301 attack percentage during Liberty's 3-2 week. She also averaged 0.79 blocks per set. The freshman recorded a pair of 19-kill matches against James Madison and USC Upstate.
For the season, she averages a team-best 3.67 kills per set, ranking fifth in the Big South. She also appears fifth on the conference's list in attack percentage at .307. She has recorded at least nine kills in each of the first eight matches of her career.
On Tuesday, she posted a team-best 19 kills at a .390 pace during a 3-1 win over James Madison. Weidner totaled 11 kills and a career-high five blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Howard on Friday. She then led all players with 19 kills in a three-set setback to USC Upstate on Saturday, hitting a season-high .486 on the afternoon. Weidner recorded 16 kills and tied her career high with five blocks in a 3-2, comeback victory over UNCG.
The Lady Flames (5-3) embark on a five-match road trip this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. match at Georgetown, tomorrow. Liberty will then play four matches at the Brown Invitational, Friday and Saturday.
