2014-15 Liberty Track & Field Schedule

The Liberty men's and women's track & field teams announced their 2014-15 season schedule today, highlighted by the first annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational and a move of the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships from April to May.

Previously known as the Liberty Kickoff, the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational will open the 2014-15 indoor season, Dec. 3-4 at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. A freshman on the 2013-14 Liberty men's track & field team, Dixon competed in the 200 and 400-meter dash events at the 2013 Liberty Kickoff. Two days later, he was tragically killed in a car accident.

Liberty will play host to a total of five meets this season, also including the Liberty Open (Jan. 16-17) and Liberty Quad (Feb. 12-13) indoors, along with the Liberty Collegiate Invitational (April 3-4) and Liberty Twilight Qualifier (April 29) at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

Both the Big South Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be contested in North Carolina this year. The indoor meet will return to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the second time in three years, Feb. 26-27. Meanwhile, High Point will host the outdoor championship for the first time, May 14-16 at Vert Stadium. Each of the first 21 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships was contested in April, prior to this year's move to mid-May.

As a result of the Big South's schedule change, Liberty will not compete in the IC4A/ECAC Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time since joining the conference in 1991. However, the Flames and Lady Flames will head to Boston for the IC4A/ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 6-8.

The 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark., while the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will return to Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., for the third straight year, June 10-13.

Two new meets appear on the Flames' outdoor schedule, including the Duke Invitational (April 11) and Big South Quad (April 18). The Duke Invitational will christen the Blue Devils' new Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium. Meanwhile, the Big South Quad will be a scored meet featuring Liberty, Campbell, Coastal Carolina and High Point, at High Point's Vert Stadium.
