Throughout the month of August, LibertyFlames.com will continue to provide in-depth coverage of football's preparation for its 2014 season, including player insight features.

We continue the series of player insight features today with linebacker Kenny Scott, who will be looking to provide leadership for Liberty's cornerbacks during the 2014 season.

For the last several years, Kenny Scott has had the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to succeed at this position from two players who are currently playing in the NFL.

Kenny Scott has been under the tutelage of Walt Aikens, drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round in May, and Kevin Fogg, a free agent signee with the same NFL franchise during the offseason.

Kenny Scott, along with sophomore Wesley Scott, will look to fill the void left by the departure of Aikens and Fogg to the next level of football.

Kenny Scott comes into his final season with Liberty having 32 career games played under his belt and he needs just one more tackle to break the 100-career tackle barrier.

Kenny Scott's specialized in the Flames' "nickel" defense package and received five starts in 2013 when Liberty opened a game in the formation.

The extra time on the field allowed Kenny Scott to finish the season ranked fifth on Liberty's roster with 45 tackles (26 solo, 19 assisted). He also added recorded his first three career interceptions, helping the Flames finish the season as a team ranked No. 5 in the country in total interceptions (19).

Liberty's players are having their second day off of training camp today and will return to the practice field on Monday morning (9:15 to 11:50 a.m.).

Following the morning workout, the team's 10th of preseason training camp, LibertyFlames.com will catch up with head football coach Turner Gill to get an update on the team's overall development as their gear up for Liberty's season opener against North Carolina on Aug. 30.
