During the month of August, LibertyFlames.com will preview each position on Liberty's football roster before the Flames open the season on the road at North Carolina on Aug. 30.

LibertyFlames.com continues its series today by looking at the Flames' defensive line, a positon that will undergo some change in 2014 with only one returning starter coming back to the squad.

The group will be looking to replace Cory Freeman (DE), Francis Bah (NT) and Jibrille Fewell (NG) with the lone returning starting coming in Big South preseason all-conference selection Chima Uzowihe at right end.

The trio of players who graduated last year combined to play 104 career games and were responsible for 223 career tackles and 33 career tackles for a loss.

However, Uzowihe was the team's leading tackler among defensive linemen, finishing the season with 43 tackles (20 solo, 23 assisted). He led the team with seven sacks and was second on the team with nine tackles for a loss, to go along with four pass breakups.

Looking to replace the three graduated players will be Dominique Davis (DE), Nolan Spicer (DT) and JaRon Greene (NG).

Greene saw action in 11 out of 12 games as a true freshman, finishing the year with 12 stops (four solo, eight assisted).

Spicer impressed Liberty's coaching staff during spring and was able to secure the starting role at defensive tackle heading into preseason training camp over Dylan Bowman, who served as a backup at the position on 2013. Spicer played in just six games last season due to injury, while Bowman played in seven games and recorded 12 tackles (three solo, nine assisted).

Davis, who was named a team captain during the offseason, saw playing time in 11 games and finished the season with six tackles.

Liberty does have a pair of experienced backups on the defensive line in Toby Onyechi, who is slated to back up Davis, and Bowman, who is slotted to play behind Spicer at tackle along with Gerald Holt.

Onyechi finished last year with 25 tackles (14 solo, 11 assisted), was fourth on the team with six tackles for a loss and second with 3.5 sacks. Bowman had 12 tackles in seven games played in 2013 (three solo, nine assisted), to go along with 2.5 tackles for a loss.

Joining Bowman, Holt and Onyechi as backups on the defensive line will be Roger Bryan (So., 6-1, 270) and Erwin Dessources (So., 6-1, 235).

While Liberty's players will have an off day on Sunday, LibertyFlames.com will continue its coverage of preseason training camp with a player feature with cornerback Kenny Scott.
