Throughout the month of August, LibertyFlames.com will continue to provide in-depth coverage of football's preparation for its 2014 season, including player insight features.

We continue the series of player insight features today with linebacker Nick Sigmon, who has been a mainstay on Liberty's defensive unit for the last three years.

Sigmon earned Big South second-team all-conference honors in 2011 and was a first-team All-Big South selection in 2012 and 2013. He was named to the Big South preseason all-conference team in July and was one of 38 FCS players named to the College Football Performance Award Linebackers Watch List this summer.

The senior linebacker has started 32 career games and is Liberty's active career leader with 174 career tackles in three years of play. Sigmon tied for the team lead and ranked No. 4 in the Big South in 2013 with 62 stops, including a team-best 32 assisted tackles. Additionally, 32 of his 62 tackles came against Big South competition.

Sigmon was one of seven players on Liberty's roster to record an interception in 2013, helping the Flames finish the year ranked No. 5 in the country with 19 interceptions.

Sigmon also enters his final season with the Flames with 29.0 career tackles for a loss and needs five more stops to crack the Flames' top five career listing (Rodney Degrate finished his career [1994-96] with 34.0 tackles for a loss).

LibertyFlames.com will continue its position previews the next two days by taking a look at the cornerbacks on Friday and the defensive line on Saturday.
