Sea Best Victory Moves Flames into Golfstat Top 25
Following their victory at the Sea Best Invitational earlier this week, Liberty's golf program moved up to No. 24 in the latest Golfstat rankings.
Liberty and North Florida finished tied atop the 16-team leaderboard Sea Best Invitational, both carding 22-over par 886 at the famed TPC – Sawgrass – THE PLAYERS Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Liberty was declared the victor based upon the Flames' stronger finish on the final day. The Flames closed with a nine-over par 297, while North Florida was one of 13 teams in the 16-team field to card a double-digit over par score on Tuesday (16-over par 304).
The last time the Flames were ranked inside the Top 25 by Golfstat was at the conclusion of the fall season in 2012. On Dec. 12, 2012, Liberty was listed at No. 24 by Golfstat.
Liberty's victory helped the Flames move up 13 spots in the Golfstat ranking. The Flames entered the Sea Best Invitational ranked No. 37 in the final fall Golfstat rankings of 2013. Liberty also moved up one spot in the Golfweek rankings this week to No. 35.
Following Liberty's 23rd NCAA Division I team title, the Flames will return to Florida next week to participate in the Gator Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event on Feb. 15-16 is hosted by Florida at its home course (Mark Bostick Golf Course) in Gainesville, Fla.
