Preseason Player Spotlight: Ashton Perritt
Outfielder/pitcher Ashton Perritt returns for his junior season, after a breakout year for the Big South Champion Liberty Flames in 2013.
Last season, Perritt was named the Big Tournament MVP after hitting .400, belting two home runs and not allowing a run in four pitching appearances, recording four saves during Liberty's title run.
In 40 games as an outfielder, Perritt hit .343 with 34 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. The Liberty leadoff hitter also hit six home runs and posted 20 multiple-hit games. Seven of his multiple-hit contests were three-hit games, and he scored two or more runs in nine contests.
On the mound, he went 3-2 with a 2.09 ERA and 10 saves over 38 2/3 innings. His 10 saves rank second on Liberty's all-time single season list.
Perritt has been named to both the 2014 NCBWA and Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams. The two-way player will also serve as one of Liberty's captains.
LSFN's Nick Pierce talked with the junior recently about the upcoming season.
