MBB Game Day Central: UNCW
The Liberty men's basketball team returns to action Monday night, playing host to UNCW. Head coach Dale Layer's squad looks to rebound from back-to-back losses, while the Seahawks hope to earn their third straight win. UNCW leads the all-time series, 2-0, after defeating the Flames in the Vines Center during the 2011-12 campaign, 77-68. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., with the contest airing live on ESPN3, Liberty Channel and the Big South Network.
Milestone Watch – Antwan Burrus posted 10 points, this past Saturday versus Western Carolina, surpassing the 800-point mark for his Liberty career. Burrus (802) now needs 198 more tallies to join teammate John Caleb Sanders in Liberty's 1,000-point club. The redshirt senior forward also needs seven more blocked shots (currently at 106) to become No. 2 all-time in the program's record books.
Bench Points – Liberty has been outscored off the bench, 64-33, in its last two contests. During the span, the Flames' starters have accounted for over 75 percent of the team's scoring.
Three-ball – Liberty's sharp shooters could have some time in the lime ight during the clash with the Seahawks. Through its first four games, UNCW is allowing approximately nine three-pointers per game. The Flames will look to bounce back after hitting just three treys against Western Carolina, the team's fewest since knocking down a trio of three-pointers in an 82-80 win at Campbell, last season.
Picking More Pockets – Through three games, Liberty is averaging eight steals per contest (24 steals). Last season, Liberty had just 14 thefts (4.7 spg) in its first three games of the season, finishing the year with an average of 5.5 per game.
