Liberty Athletics Thankful for Great Fan Support

The 2012-13 athletics season, one that saw Liberty win 10 conference titles, was a record-breaking year. Flames Nation set an overall attendance record with 200,630 fans attending NCAA Division I on-campus events. The previous record was 185,462 set in 2008-09. 

Football total attendance (97,910) ranked No. 9 in the country, while Liberty's average attendance (16,318) ranked No. 11 and Liberty ranked Nol. 21 in filling stadium capacity (84.99 percent) among FCS programs.

Men's basketball average attendance increased by 26 percent this past season with an average crowd of 2,156 compared to 1,587 the previous season. The largest crowd of the season was 3,246 against Charleston Southern. 

Women's basketball average attendance (1,282) this season was the best since the 2006-07 season which was 1,490 per game. The inaugural Best Field Trip Ever promotion brought in over 3,200 area school children for the Virginia Union game on Dec. 17.

Baseball opened a new state-of-the-art stadium this spring and averaged 1,050 fans per game, just missing the top 50 nationally in attendance. Five games drew over 2,000 spectators this season.

Men's soccer total attendance (3,838) was the third-best for the program since 2005. The highest attended game this season was a program-best with 1,783 fans at the North Carolina State match on August 24.

Women's soccer total attendance (3,088) and average attendance (281) ranked as the second best season since 2005. The highest attended game this season had 515 fans when the Lady Flames hosted Radford on Oct. 20.

Field Hockey more than doubled its total attendance this season going from 712 to 1,537.  The best attended game this season had 280 fans when the Lady Flames hosted Georgetown on Sept. 1.

Lacrosse set a record in total attendance (1,539) this past season. The Davidson game on March 30 set a new single-game attendance record with 365 fans.
