Giancarlo Lemmi joined the Lady Flames coaching staff in the fall of 2012 as a graduate assistant. During the summer of 2013, Lemmi was promoted to a full-time assistant by head coach Jeff Maren. Lemmi's strong knowledge of the game and Liberty tennis stems from his four-year playing career for the Flames.

During his first two seasons at as an assistant, Lemmi has helped the Lady Flames to a 26-20 overall record, including a 13-5 mark in Big South Conference matches. Liberty has reached the semifinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship in each of his first two seasons.

The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native helped the Flames total double-digit victories in each of his four seasons with the program—the first such stretch in the program's history. Lemmi helped the Flames accumulate 50 victories in the four-year span.

Lemmi concluded his standout career in 2012, finishing as the Flames' all-time career wins leader in both singles (72) and doubles (79) play. The two-time Big South All-Conference player in doubles also excelled in the classroom, being named to the Big South's Presidential Honor Roll three times, the Big South All-Academic team twice (2011-12) and the VaSID All-Academic team once (2012).
