Meghan HarkeyAssistant Coach
College: Christopher Newport University '11
Start Date: 8/8/2011
Meghan Harkey enters her second season with the Liberty lacrosse program as the Lady Flames begin their first year of competition in the Big South Conference in 2013.
As a collegiate student-athlete, Harkey competed four seasons as an attacker at Christopher Newport while earning her degree in communication studies. She earned a variety of accolades as a CNU Captain, beginning with the honor of USA South Conference Rookie of the Year in 2008. She also garnered USA South first team all-conference and USA South All-Tournament team honors in 2008, and repeated the selections each of the next three seasons.
Harkey added second team all-region honors to her list of awards in 2010 and 2011 and served as team captain in 2011. She left her mark on CNU's record books, ending her career as the program leader in points (343) and assists (149). During her junior campaign, she posted the program record for points in a season with 105 (59 goals, 46 assists).
"Meghan is an exciting addition to our staff," stated head coach Regan Denham. "She has proven her skills as an attacker and we'll look for her to bring an aggressive mindset to our offense."
A native of Purcellville, Va., Harkey also had a notable career at Loudoun Valley High School, where she led the team in scoring and was named to the first team all-region squad three consecutive years. During her senior campaign in 2007, Harkey was tabbed as the District Player of the Year.
Harkey has also taken opportunities to be involved in her sport aside from competition. From 2005-2008, she acted as an official for Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League contests. In 2006, she began to grow her coaching experience by working at the Upper Corner Lacrosse Camp in Leesburg, Va. From 2006-2009, she served as a field coach and concentrated on instructing elementary, middle school and rising high school players with skills, rules and game concepts. During 2008-2010, Harkey coached a tournament travel team through the same summer camp, focusing on rising juniors.
