Matt Olinger enters his fifth season with the Liberty men's basketball program and his second as its director of operations after spending the previous three as its head manager. Olinger has been an integral part to Liberty success over the last two seasons, helping the Flames to 39 wins, the third-most wins over a two year period in program history and second-best during the Division I era.
Olinger's responsibilities include overseeing film exchange in compliance with Big South Conference policies, facilitating team travel plans, hosting visiting teams and coordinating pre- and postgame meals. He also was responsible for implementing camp marketing strategies, assisting with the oversight of the student managerial staff and overseeing facility upgrades.
During Olinger's time at Liberty, he has also served as an interim assistant coach during the spring of 2008 and the spring and summer of 2009. As an interim assistant coach, Olinger was active with 2008-09 spring individual skill instruction and spent a considerable amount of time on the road recruiting in both the summer of 2008 and 2009.
Olinger, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., majored in sport management and is currently seeking a Masters of Business Administration from Liberty.
Olinger, the only remaining member of the 2004 Big South Championship team, was a stand-out athlete at Bethesda Christian High School in Indianapolis. Olinger helped lead his team to back-to-back state championships (2002 & 2003) in the hallowed Indiana State Tournament.
Olinger, the son of Mark and Miriam Olinger, now of Orlando, Fla., is the only son of four children. In his spare time, Olinger enjoys watching sports, playing basketball and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
