(L-R): Jacy Christiansen, Jessie Proehl and Meredith Mistretta are expected to be three of the Lady Flames' top runners during the 2014 cross country season.

2014 Liberty Cross Country Schedule

Repetition is a theme of the 2014 Liberty men's and women's cross country schedule, as the Flames and Lady Flames will make two visits to three different courses this season, and possibly a fourth as well.

Head coach Brant Tolsma's squad will race twice at Panorama Farms (Earlysville, Va.), the Gardner-Webb Cross Country Course (Boiling Springs, N.C.) and E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park (Louisville, Ky.) in 2014. If the Flames qualify for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, it would mark their second race at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course (Terre Haute, Ind.).

For the second straight year, Liberty will begin the season with 4K races at the low-key UVa Duals meet, Aug. 29 at Panorama Farms.

Gardner-Webb will play host to the Big South Cross Country Championships for the first time in 2014, at its on-campus course in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. In preparation for that meet, the Flames will compete at the Sept. 13 Big South Preview.

Liberty will make one more trip north on Route 29 on Sept. 26, closing out the month of September with the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational.

On Oct. 4, the Flames will split their runners between a pair of meets. Some of the Liberty athletes will preview the NCAA regional course at the Greater Louisville Classic, while others will enter the Hagan Stone Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Liberty will send a partial squad to lightning-fast McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Royal Cross Country Challenge on Oct. 11.

The Flames will take on many of the nation's elite teams and individuals on Oct. 18, at the ISU Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

As mentioned above, the 2014 Big South Cross Country Championships will be held on Gardner-Webb's campus on Nov. 1. The Liberty men's squad will be in search of its unprecedented 10th straight conference title, while the Lady Flames will aim for their sixth crown in nine years.

Some Liberty runners will end their cross country season at the Hokie Open in Blacksburg, Virginia, Nov. 7. Others will compete in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships one week later (Nov. 14), looking to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Louisville's E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park will serve as the meet's venue for the first time since 2011.

For the 10th time in the last 11 years, the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be contested in Terre Haute, Indiana. The meet is slated for Nov. 22 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
