MBB Game Day Central: Charleston Southern
Coming off a narrow loss to Coastal Carolina, the Liberty men's basketball heads to Charleston, S.C., for a clash with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, Saturday. The contest marks a rematch of the 2013 Big South Championship final. Liberty took the contest, 87-76, garnering its third Big South title and NCAA appearance in program history. The meeting is also the first inside the Buc Dome since Antwan Burrus hit a 30-foot buzzer beater to give the Flames a 75-74 victory inside the facility on Feb. 9, 2012. Tipoff for the 57th meeting between the two squads is slated for 5:30 p.m., with the contest airing live on ESPN3.
Burrus is Back in Town
Against the Chanticleers on Wednesday, Antwan Burrus nearly recreated the heroics he had at Charleston Southern two years ago, but the redshirt senior's three-point attempt bounced off the left side of the rim as the buzzer sounded. Now, he returns to the place where he made highlight reel history after missing the entire 2012-13 season due to injury. The Winterville, N.C., native, who recently became the 24th member of Liberty's 1,000-point club is coming off a 15-point performance at Coastal Carolina.
Spark off the Bench
Casey Roberts continues to post quick points off the bench for the Flames. The senior went 2-of-3 from the field in just six minutes. In the last two games, Roberts has recorded a total of 13 points in a combined 11 minutes of action.
Dishing it out
While John Caleb Sanders' older brother Jesse finished his collegiate career as the all-time Big South and Liberty leader in assists (727), the younger Sanders is displaying shades of the former Flames floor general. In conference play, John Caleb is second in assists, averaging 5.7 per game.
