Following a standout performance on Saturday, defensive back Jacob Hagen has been named this week's Big South Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office earlier today.

Hagen led Liberty's defensive effort against the Blue Hose, finishing the contest with a team-high nine tackles. Six of his tackles were solo stops, marking a new season high for the junior.

Hagen also caused both of PC's turnovers, each leading to the Flames' touchdowns. Hagen forced his first career fumble midway through the first quarter and Liberty would score 18 plays and 90 yards later to take a 14-0 on a lead Desmond Rice rushing touchdown.

Hagen helped the Flames one last time before heading into the locker room at halftime, picking off a PC pass and returning it 44 yards. Four plays after his fourth career interception, Liberty scored to take a 21-7 lead into the break.

The Orange Park, Fla., native ranks second on Liberty's roster with 55 tackles this season. He is one of three Flames with three interceptions in 2013 and ranks No. 44 in the country in interceptions per game (0.3).

Hagen is a part of Liberty's defense that ranks No. 6 in the country in scoring defense (17.6 points per game allowed) and No. 16 in total defense (323.4 total offensive yards allowed per game).

Hagen and the Flames will close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday when they host Brevard at Williams Stadium. Kickoff for the Senior Day game is slated for 3:30 p.m. and it will be televised on the Liberty Flames Sports Network, ESPN3 and MASN.
