Liberty had its second strong defensive showing in a row, beginning a three-game homestand with a 17-7 victory over VMI, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.

Liberty came within seconds of posting back-to-back shutouts, as Liberty surrendered its lone touchdown of the game with 87 seconds left to play. Liberty was looking to record consecutive shutouts for the first time in program history after blanking Gardner-Webb the week prior, 24-0, in Boiling Springs, N.C.

Darrin Peterson was Liberty's offensive standout, recording his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season with nine catches for 118 yards. Walt Aikens led the Flames' stout defensive effort with eight tackles and recorded one of Liberty's three interceptions in the game.
