Wilson Named Big South Attacking Player of Week; Earns Inclusion on CSN Team of the Week
Liberty forward Sachem Wilson has been named the Big South Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week and included on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Wilson, a sophomore from Stow, Ohio, netted three goals this past week, helping Liberty (9-7, 5-4 Big South) record Big South victories over Longwood and Campbell. With his three goals, he moves his season total to team-leading eight goals and 19 points. His eight goals are the most by a Liberty player since 2010.
The forward got the Flames off to a fast start, scoring 7:28 into Liberty's contest against Longwood, Tuesday. Wilson picked up a loose ball off a corner kick and netted his sixth goal of the season, as Liberty went on to win the contest, 2-1, in overtime.
Saturday, the sophomore scored twice, propelling the Flames past Campbell, 3-1. It was the midfielder's second two-goal game of the season and the third of his career.
Once again, Wilson put Liberty on the scoreboard early. The midfielder caused a turnover in the midfield and scored on the Flames' first shot of the contest with an attempt from just outside the 18-yard box 9:28 into the contest. Later in the first half, he picked up another turnover at the top of the box and put home the game-winner during the 36th minute.
The honor marks the second Big South Attacking Player of the Week nod of his career, with both coming this season. Earlier this year, Wilson received the honor after recording five points on two goals and an assist in Liberty's 4-0 win over IUPUI on Sept. 6. It is the first time that the forward has been selected to the CSN National Team of the Week in his career.
Wilson and the rest of the Flames will host the Radford Highlanders in their final regular season game of 2013 on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. Before the game, the Liberty seniors will be honored.
