Caleb Edmonds (second from left) is the Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Liberty senior Caleb Edmonds has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, thanks to his individual victory at Saturday's VMI Invitational.

This is the first career Big South Runner of the Week honor for the Flames' team captain. Edmonds is also a two-time Big South Men's Track Athlete of the Week during his four years at Liberty, capturing the honors on March 8, 2012 and April 4, 2013.

It is the second conference award in as many days for Edmonds, who was named ECAC Division I Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday.

Edmonds covered the hilly 8K course in 26:12.77, giving him an 18-second victory over teammate Ngetich Kipchirchir and headlining Liberty's 1-2-3-4 sweep of the top men's individual placements in the race. The first individual triumph of Edmonds' collegiate career came in a course-record time in the first-ever competition at the Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va.

A native of Cooperstown, N.Y., Edmonds helped the Liberty men's squad win the VMI Invitational team title with a score of 19 points. That put the Flames 32 points ahead of Big South and Southeast Region rival High Point's 51 tallies.

Edmonds and the Flames are currently preparing for Saturday's Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va. The meet will begin with the men's 8K race at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 10:30.
