Throughout the month of August, LibertyFlames.com will continue to provide in-depth coverage of football's preparation for its 2014 season, including player insight features.

We continue the series of player insight features today with Chima Uzowihe, a junior that will be looking to provide on the field leadership to the defensive group that lost three starters from 2013.

Uzowihe is the lone returning starter from last year's defensive line following the graduation of Cory Freeman (DE), Francis Bah (NT) and Jibrille Fewell (NG). The group combined to play 104 career games and were responsible for 223 career tackles and 33 career tackles for a loss.

The Houston, Texas, native earned All-Big South first-team and VaSID all-state second-team honors in 2013 after finishing seventh on the team in tackles with 43 tackles (20 solo, 23 assisted).

Uzowihe led the Flames and ranked No. 2 in the Big South in sacks (7.0), while also leading Liberty and ranking No. 5 in the conference in tackles for a loss (9.0). Four of his seven sacks were against Big South foes, helping Liberty rank No. 9 in the country in total defense (313.9 total offensive yards allowed per game).

LibertyFlames.com will continue its player insight features later this weekend when LFSN reporter Alan York talks with wide receiver Gabe Henderson and offensive lineman Greg Ray.
