Former Flames baseball players David Benham and Benji Miller were selected to the 1990-99 Big South All-Decade team.

In conjunction with the Big South Conference's 30th Anniversary celebration, the conference has announced its Baseball All-Decade Teams, today. The all-decade squads were determined by a panel of conference administrators, along with fan voting.

Two former Liberty standouts were honored, as catcher David Benham and pitcher Benji Miller were voted to the 1990-99 team. Both players were fixtures of Liberty's 1998 Big South Championship and NCAA Tallahassee, Fla., Regional squad.

A native of Garland, Texas, Benham was Liberty's starting catcher from 1995-98. Benham was selected to the Big South All-Conference team three times (1996, 1997 & 1998) and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District team member in 1998.

In four seasons as a Flame, Benham hit .328, scoring 124 runs and driving in 141 in 198 games. The catcher also belted 46 doubles and 24 home runs during his career. His RBI and doubles totals rank 10th all-time in program history.

In 1997, Benham was named the team MVP, as he led the Flames in batting average (.384), hits (76) and runs (29) during the year.

Hailing from Charleston, S.C., Miller was a member of the Liberty mound staff and teammate of Benham from 1995-98.  During his first two seasons with the Flames (1995-96), the right-hander was mainly a relief pitcher for the Flames, while during his final two seasons (1997-98), Miller moved into a starting role.  Miller was named to the 1997 and 1998 Big South All-Conference teams and was also selected to the 1998 Big South All-Tournament team.

In 63 appearances during his Liberty career, Miller posted a 15-13 record with a 4.84 ERA over 223 innings.  He struck out 229 batters and walked 128. The right-hander's strikeout total ranks sixth on the program's career list.

During the Flames run to the 1998 Big South Championship, Miller set the Liberty record for strikeouts in a season with 119. He struck out a program-high 20 batters on May 10, 1998 during a Big South Tournament Game at Fort Mill, S.C.
