Liberty's Bean Named an NCAA.com Top Performer
Liberty's Parker Bean has been recognized by NCAA.com as one of the Top Performers in College Baseball during Week 8. The freshman right-hander was one of five players recognized by NCAA.com.
Bean was selected as the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week and also was included in the Louisville Slugger Players of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, earlier this week.
Bean came within two outs of pitching a no-hitter in Liberty's 17-0 win over VMI, Sunday. The right-hander struck out a career-high 16 over 8 1/3 innings. The lone hit by the Keydets came with one out in the ninth inning, as he held the Keydets to a .044 average at the plate. He did not allow a runner past second base in his outing. The honor is the first Big South Pitcher of the Week award for the freshman.
Bean and the Flames travel to Farmville, Va., for a three-game Big South Conference series with the Longwood Lancers. The series gets underway at Bolding Stadium, Friday at 6 p.m.
