Lady Flames Travel for Big South Series at Radford

Liberty softball travels to face Big South rival Radford on Tuesday and Wednesday, with game one on Tuesday set for a 4 p.m. start at RU Softball Field. The Lady Flames (6-31, 1-11 Big South) will look to get back on the winning track, after sustaining four straight setbacks. Radford (12-19, 6-3) has won three consecutive games, shutting out Presbyterian College three times this past weekend.
Radford leads the all-time series, 45-26, over the Lady Flames, as the Highlanders won the season series, 2-1, last season.
Lady Flames at a Glance
Liberty went 2-5 this past week, winning back-to-back home games against CSU and UNCG. The Lady Flames dropped all three games at Coastal Carolina this past weekend, and seek their first true road win of the season.
Katie Zavodny bats .333 with 25 runs scored, and is second in the Big South with 18 stolen bases. Hanna Nichols bats .303, while Megan Robinson (.284) leads Liberty with seven home runs and a .557 slugging percentage. Kelby Allen (.278) leads the team with six doubles and 21 RBIs. Sammi Shivock bats .268 with 14 RBIs, and Blair Lawrence (.247) has stolen 10 bases this season.
Senior RHP Alyssa DiMartino (3-10) leads the team with a 5.13 ERA. Sophomore RHP Annah Jo Brittingham (2-18) picked up saves in back-to-back games last week. Senior SS/P Grace Nordan earned her first win of the season, March 22 versus N.C. Central.

Liberty vs. Radford (Radford leads, 45-26)
Radford (12-19, 6-3 Big South) did not allow a run to Presbyterian College, sweeping the Blue Hose in three games at RU Softball Stadium over the weekend. The Highlanders bat .228 as a team, with 30 home runs. Jessie Hutchens leads the team with a .345 batting average, eight homers and 21 RBIs, while Whitney Davis (.262) has hit five home runs and driven in 17 runs. Abby Morrow (5-4) has posted a 3.32 ERA, while Rachael Walters is 6-8 with a 3.55 ERA.
The Highlanders are 45-26 all-time against Liberty, winning all four meetings last season. One of Liberty's biggest wins in program history came on May 14, 2011, when the Lady Flames downed Radford in the 2011 Big South Softball Championship final.
Liberty vs. Radford - 2013 Recap
Radford went 2-1 against the Lady Flames in 2013.
Liberty built a 3-0 lead on March 20, before Radford scored six unanswered runs, winning the teams' Big South opener at RU Softball Field by a score of 6-3.
During game one of a doubleheader on April 3 in Lynchburg, Chandler Ball threw a five-hit shutout, as the Lady Flames downed Radford, 7-0.
Despite Radford earning a 12-4 win over the Lady Flames in the nightcap, Katie Zavodny extended her hitting streak to 23 games, tying Alycia Stevens' (1995) program record for longest hitting streak.
The Lady Flames will play six games in a five-day span this week, with a midweek series at Radford and three home games against Gardner-Webb on Friday and Saturday. This will conclude a stretch of 14 games in a two-week span that began with the series opener against Charleston Southern on Sunday, March 30.
The Lady Flames are halfway through their conference schedule, as 12 Big South tilts remain. Liberty's remaining four conference opponents have a combined 20-29 (.408) Big South record, while the Lady Flames' first four league foes are a combined 34-15 (.694).
Katie Zavodny bats .333 during conference play, and is tied with Megan Robinson (.306) for the team lead with six runs scored. Robinson leads the team in doubles (3), homers (4), RBIs (9) and slugging percentage (.722). Sammi Shivock bats .294 with two homers in league games, and Kelby Allen (.263) has driven in six runs.
Alyssa DiMartino is 1-3 with a 4.55 ERA in conference play this season.
Megan Robinson hit a double in three straight games at Coastal this weekend. Robinson is the first Lady Flame with a double in three consecutive games since Kelby Allen did so, Feb. 22-23, 2013 against Presbyterian College.
Liberty went winless in a series at Coastal Carolina this past weekend, but had some highlights in Conway.
Megan Robinson batted 6-for-9 (.667) against Coastal, totaling three doubles, one homer and four RBIs. She went 3-for-3 on Sunday, her second three-hit game of 2014.
Kelby Allen went 2-for-3 during Sunday's series finale, giving her four multiple-hit games in her last seven games played.
Blair Lawrence stole her 10th base of the season on Saturday, giving her two straight 10-steal seasons to start her career.
Rounding the Bases
The Lady Flames scored a season-high 14 runs in a 14-10 win during game one against UNCG, last Wednesday. All nine players in the batting order scored at least one run, led by three from Hanna Nichols and two runs each by Katie Zavodny, Megan Robinson and Blair Lawrence.
It marked the second time this season that every starter scored at least one run, as everyone in the batting order scored in a 12-0 win over UMBC, Feb. 15.
During the last five games, Liberty is batting .281 as a team, averaging 4.8 runs per game.
Also during that span, Megan Robinson is batting .563 (9-for-16) with three doubles, two homers and seven RBIs. Kelby Allen (.353) has totaled five RBIs, while Katie Zavodny (.333), Annah Jo Brittingham (.333) and Blair Lawrence (.308) all bat over .300.
Top 10 Listing
Seniors Sammi Shivock and Katie Zavodny both rank in the top 10 in program history in four different career categories.
Zavodny is Liberty's career leader in stolen bases (97), while ranking third in runs (119), seventh in hits (188) and tied for 10th in triples (4).
Shivock is ranked fifth in career homers (26), seventh in both runs scored (111) and RBIs (108) and tied for ninth in walks (52).
Alyssa DiMartino and Annah Jo Brittingham are tied for ninth all-time at Liberty with two career saves, while Chandler Ball is rated 10th with 207 career strikeouts.
Senior Alyssa DiMartino gained her third win of the season last Wednesday against UNCG, and also went 1-for-4 with three RBIs during her first career appearance in the Liberty batting order.
Sophomore Annah Jo Brittingham started at third base and went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and pitched the final three innings to earn her second save in as many games.
