Lady Flames freshman standout Maria Khval was named the Big South Women's Tennis Crons Brand Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday. It is Khval's third conference weekly honor of the season, as the freshman was also the Player of the Week on Jan. 28.

Khval went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play last week, helping lead Liberty to a pair of Big South victories. Playing in the top doubles spot, Khval teamed with Rebekah Jenkins to defeat UNC Asheville's Ericka Rivero and Zoe Hamel, 8-4, and Presbyterian College's Greer Ransom and Courtney Gardiner, 8-3.

Khval followed her doubles performances with two straight-set wins in the No. 4 singles position. The Minsk, Belarus, native dominated the Bulldog's Christine Boissevain, 6-1, 6-3, before knocking off Gardiner of the Blue Hose, 6-1, 6-1.

Khval is now 11-7 overall in singles play and 8-6 in doubles matches. In conference matches, the freshman is 4-3 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles.

The Lady Flames tennis team returns to the court tomorrow with a road match at Radford. The contest against the Highlanders is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
