2013 Season Recap with Coach Gill: Special Teams
|Richard Wright, Liberty's three-time Big South all-conference long snapper|
LibertyFlames.com concludes a three-part series looking back on the 2013 football season with head coach Turner Gill. During today's video session, Liberty Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York and Gill review the Flames' special teams.
The Flames special teams' standout was once again Richard Wright. The senior, who started 45 straight games, was once again named the Big South's first-team all-conference long snapper, for the third time in his career.
As a team, Liberty finished the year ranked No. 16 in the country in kickoff return defense, holding opponents to an average of 17.85 yards per return.
Sophomore John Lunsford was the only kicker in the Big South to connect on all of his extra point attempts in 2013. He was 53-of-53 on point-after kicks and currently holds the second-longest, consecutive extra point streak in program history (55).
Kevin Fogg finished his Liberty career with four special teams kick returns for a touchdown (three kickoff returns and one punt return). The redshirt senior's career kickoff return yard average of 25.3 ranks No. 5 in Liberty's career records.
Later this week, LibertyFlames.com will conclude its video recap of the 2013 season with interviews with defensive coordinator Robert Wimberly (Wed./Dec. 11) and offensive coordinator Aaron Stamn (Fri./Dec. 13).
